I've learned that when my body is speaking, I need to listen to it. Most of us probably have had signals we did not recognize for a while before a significant event occurs.

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with epilepsy and have been on medication since 2012. They say I will need it for the rest of my life. I was hesitant at first but have accepted it. I would rather be safe than to be liability to anyone.

There have only been a few episodes but looking back, there may have been warning signs I was unaware of. About twenty years ago, I had a seizure when the kids were about kindergarten. I was getting ready for work. My husband had taken the kids to school and when he returned, he found me having a seizure on the bathroom floor. I still had the curling iron in my hair which could have burned me badly.

I went to the hospital but did not want to go on medication because I thought it was a random event. I had been sick that week and was on antibiotics so I thought I had just been away from being weak.

In 2009, I had a car accident. Fortunately, I was the only one in the car and there were no other cars on the road. My car was total. I was in the hospital for five days. They did a sleep study on me. The doctor said a seizure may have caused the accident. I was in denial. I thought I had fallen sleep at the wheel. I said if it ever happened again that I would go on medication.

Sure enough, in 2012, I had another seizure. I was getting ready for work. My husband had taken the dog out for a walk. When he returned, he found me in a pool of blood, having a seizure. I went to the hospital. There was no condemning it this time. I agreed to start taking medication.

After that event, my mother recalled that I had hoped when I was in kindergarten. I had been playing on the swing set in the back yard. When she looked out the kitchen window, she saw me unconscious on the ground. She took me to the emergency room but while we were waiting, I woke up so she thought I was fine and we went home.

Looking back, I recall the most significant signs between 2004 to 2014. Those were my most active years in long-hour, stressful jobs. Every few months, I would get horrible migraine headaches, accompanied by vomiting and stomach trouble. I would have to go home sick.

Thankfully, I am able now to be in a relaxed atmosphere. I was great at what I did but my body was telling me that it could not keep up. I've learned to listen to it. Drug-Free Headache Relief

Experts have found that 90 percent of those with headaches can be helped with chiropractic care. This includes different types of headaches which may be classified as stress, tension, migraine or sinus headaches.

Chiropractors have identified the cause of many types of headaches to be due to the alignment of the spinal bones in the upper part of the neck in relation to the skull. If the topmost bones of the spine, called cervical vertebrae, are misaligned or moving improperly they can irritate the nerves of that area which then may trigger the sunset of headaches.

The profession of chiropractic is in a unique position to help those suffering from headaches. Chiropractors have training to look at the skeletal alignment, nervous system and muscular system. When a chiropractor corrects a mal-positioned or improperly moving vertebrae many times it can speed relief and help headache sufferers without the use of drugs and medication.

At times the public may wonder about the safety of chiropractic care. Research has been directed toward this topic. In 2001 the Canadian Chiropractic Association Journal reported a study that the incidence of stroke following neck treatment by a chiropractor was one per 5.8 5 million. On average, a chiropractor would have to work for 1430 years (48 for chiropractic carers) for this to happen once. Driving to the office would probably be considered more dangerous.

When one considers that every year one hundred thousand people are estimated to die as a result of taking prescription medines we can see see by comparison that chiropractic may have to be considered the safest form of treatment for those who seek relief from headaches.
