Temporal Bone Dysfunction, Vertigo, and Migraines: Are They Linked?

People who suffer from Vertigo are not able to drive, or walk, or even sit up or move in many cases, depending on the severity.

One type of Vertigo occurs when the crystals in the inner ear canal get displaced and stuck in the wrong position. Another type of vertigo can occur from debris lodged in the inner ear canal, typically from some type of head trauma.

In my clinical experience, I have seen many, many patients with Migraines, and many patients with Vertigo. And along the way, I've seen patients exhibiting both sets of symptoms together.

Types Of Headaches In Children

It's difficult when we have a headache and even more so when children have them. This can be all the more disturbing when they start occurring more frequently. Headaches have a way of becoming chronic and may occur every week, fortnightly or every month. Children should not suffer from these symptoms, no matter how frequent or infrequent. If you find a repeating pattern in your child, consult a pediatrician immediately. Try not to worry about them but never leave the issue unattended.

Types Of Headaches

• Secondary Headaches- Some symptoms are actually caused by other health issues. They may be a result of allergies, a sinus infection, any other infection or even an injury to the head. Once the primary issue has been addressed and treated, the secondary symptoms will automatically go away too.

• Stress-It's a fallacy that only adults suffer from stress and related maladies. On their level, children too can suffer from stress. They may be worried over a situation in the house or at school. Essential Oils to Help Headaches

You're stuck in traffic while driving home from work. Of course now you are an hour late getting home to start dinner. The kids are bugging the living daylights out of you. Now you have this massive headache.

At some point in our lives we have experienced having a headache. Stress will cause one, so will sugar, your spinal being out of whack, hormones, and a rise in blood pressure.

When we get a headache, most of us grab a couple of acetaminophen. WebMD has an oral warning on acetaminophen “taking too much acetaminophen may cause seriously (possibly fatal) liver disease.” Wow, I've known myself at stressful times to take more than the recommended dosage in a day.

The livers purpose in our body is to clean our blood; it also helps in metabolizing drugs and chemicals from our body.

We put so many chemicals in our bodies. It's bad enough to consume the ones we do not know about, but worse when we consume the ones we do know about. That is why more people are turning to alternative drugs to use instead of drugs.

A double-blinded controlled place crossover studies done at Christian-Albrecht University in Kiel, Germany found oils successful in helping relieve pain from tension headaches where acetaminophen is typically used. The oils will help support circulation; diminish spasms in the muscle, and shrinks inflammatory effects.

Some of the oils which are known to help with headaches are; wintergreen, lavender, German chamomile, clove, copaiba, eucalyptus and myrrh.

• Abstain from drinking alcoholic beverages. Imbibing alcoholic drinks can cause sinus and nasal tissues to swell, thereby causing sinus headaches.

Common Headaches, Ouch

Well the stress of naming this article has just given me one! I joke of course but you will not be laughing if you really have got a stress induced headache. Stress is one of the major causes of a Tension Headache, the most common kind of headache. There's a dull ache and constant pressure right around the front sides and top of the head (you know, ones' that make you feel like your head is in a vice). Others include; depression; dehydration (usually 'cause you've drunk too much, be honest); lack of sleep ('cause you stayed up late drinking!); missing out meals ('cause …); and many more.

Headaches are of course one of the most common complaints with over 10 million sufferers reaching for the tablets and usually finding the cure from the chemist suffice. A life-style change is also a proven remedy (OK, I know, lay off the booze) be it diet or exercise or just a good night's sleep.

Tension headaches are a primary headache (one where there is not a health issue causing the headache symptoms) and two others in this category are Migraines and Cluster headaches.

Migraines are blinders and intensely painful, they stop you functioning when severe with a hammering throb to the sides of the head, ouch! They are less common than tension headaches and in mild cases can be treated with over-counter drugs but a Doctor is sometimes required to prescribe migraine specific treatments in server cases.

Also requiring a prescribed medicine is the Cluster headache (Cluster because they occur in groups about the same time each year) which, I'm reliably informed, are excruciatingly painful with the intense pain centered around one eye.

Secondary Headaches then, are those where another cause has brought on the pain (Oh no, we're back to alcohol!) Such as concussion, the side effects from other medication (mmm … treat one condition, then gain a headache! ) or when you're simply unwell; who has not had a headache while suffering the flu?

Women often have hormone related headaches connected to their periods (as most men will claim to be well aware of !!!) along with pregnancy, the pill and the menopause, each a potential trigger.

You, usually, know your own body with all its quirks and so will, undoably, do a self diagnosis as to the cause of the headaches and additionally most people are quite familiar with which over the counter remedy works best for you. I always used to get a headache after a long drive up the motorway facing the sun only to find the headache ceased the moment I purchased a packet of Paracetamol and put some sunglasses on; maybe I should have pretended to buy them and saved the money!

Oh, one last thing, frequent headaches may cause you to worry about the origin of the pain and some think they may have a brain tumor; This is very, very rare, see your Doctor and stop worrying.
